                                       History of ICT
Early Beginnings
The history of ITC originations from humble beginning, which include the abacus. The abacus is thought to have been originally invented 3000 years before the birth of Christ. Revisions to its use / design continued for many years e.g.  500 BC a bead and wire version is developed in Egypt. Early versions of the calculator were gradually replacing this primitive method of mathematics. In 1624 Wilhelm schickard built the first four function calculator or clock at the University of Heidelberg, thus heralding a new era.
Development Timeline
§  1939 – Hewlett Packard founded
§  Hewlett Packard is founded David Packard and Bill Hewlett found Hewlett – Packard in a Palo Alto, California garage
§  There first product was the HP 2000A Audio Oscillator which rapidly becomes a popular piece of test equipment  for engineers
§  Walt Disney ordered eight of the 200B model to use as sound effects generations for the 1940 movie fantasia
§  1943 project whirlwind
§  Project whirlwind begins during world war II, the us navy approached the Massachusetts institute of technology (MIT) about building a flight simulator to train bomber crews
§  The team first built a large analogy computer but found it inaccurate and inflexible. After designers saw a  demonstration of the ENIAC computers they decided on building a digital computers

1948 IBM SSEC
§  IBM’s a selective electronic calculator computed scientific data in public display near the company’s Manhattan headquarters.
1950 First commercial computer
§  Engineering research associate of built the ERA 1101, the first commercially produced computer the company’s first customer was the US Navy. It held 1 million bits on its magnetic drum, the earliest magnetic, storage devices
§  Drums eventually stored as many as 40,000 words and retrieved any one of them in as little as five – thousands of a second
§  1962 – first interactive computer game
§  First played at MIT on DEC’s PDP-1 the large scope display featured interactive, shoot em-up graphics that inspired future video games
§  Duelling players fired at each other’s spaceships and used early versions of joysticks to manipulate away from the central gravitational force of a sun as well as from the enemy ship
1971 the first e-mail sent
§  The first e-mail is sent Ray Tomlinson of the research firm bolt, Breanek and Newman sent the first e-mail when he was supposed to be working on a different project
§  Tomlinson, who is credited with being the one to decide on the” @” sign for use in e-mail sent his message over a military network called Appanet
§  When asked to describe the contents  of the first e-mail Tomlison said it was something like “QWERTYUIOP”

1988 first computer virus
§  Robert Morris worm flooded the Appanet
§  23 year old Morris, the son of a computer security expert for the National security Agency, sent a non-destructive worm through the internet causing problems for about 6,000 of the 60,000 hosts linked to the network
§  Morris was sentence to the years of probation , 400 hours of community service and a fine of $10,050

1990 World Wide Web is born
§  The World Wide Web (WWW) was born when Tim Berners-lee, a researcher at CERN developed Hypertext Mark-up language
§  HTML, as it is commonly known allowed the internet to expand into the (WWW), using specification he developed such as URL (Uniform Resource Locator) and HTTP (Hyper Tex Transfer Protocol)
§  A browser, such as Netscape or Microsoft internet explorer follows links and sends a query to a server allowing user to view a sight

2004 Facebook
§  Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow computers science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovirtz and Chris Hughes
§  As of July 2011 facebook has more than 800 million active users and a value of around 41 billion US dollars
    Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs Steve Jobs was the co-founder and CEO of Apple and formerly Pixar.

Steve Jobs was born in San Francisco, California to Joanne Simpson and a Syrian father. Paul and Clara Jobs of Mountain View, California then adopted him. In 1972, Jobs graduated from Homestead High School in Cupertino, California and enrolled in Reed College in Portland, Oregon. One semester later, he had dropped out, later taking up the study of philosophy and foreign cultures.

Steve Jobs had a deep-seated interest in technology, so he took up a job at Atari Inc, then a leading manufacturer of video games. He struck a friendship with fellow designer Steve Wozniak and attended meetings of the “Homebrew Computer Club” with him.

After saving up some money, Jobs took off for India in the search of enlightenment. Once he returned, he convinced Wozniak to quit his job at Hewlett Packard to join him in his venture that concerned personal computers. They sold items like scientific calculators to raise the seed capital.

In 1976, Jobs and Wozniak founded Apple Computer in the Jobs family garage. The first personal computer was sold for $666.66. By 1980, Apple had already released three improved versions of the personal computer. It had a wildly successful IPO, which made both founders millionaires many times over.

A tiff with the Apple’s Board of Directors and John Scully led to Jobs’ resignation. Steve Jobs decided that he wanted to change the hardware industry. The company was called NeXTStep, which produced the NeXT Computer. The machine was a commercial washout but helped with future work in object-oriented programming, PostScript, and magneto-optical devices. Jobs returned to his original company after Apple acquired NeXT in 1996.

Steve Jobs also started Pixar, which has produced multiple blockbuster films, including Toy Story (1995); A Bug’s Life (1998); Toy Story 2 (1999); Monsters, Inc. (2001); Finding Nemo (2003); and The Incredibles (2004).

In 2004, Jobs was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in his pancreas, which was successfully treated.

Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple on August 24, 2011 and subsequently assumed the role of Chairman of the Board.

On October 5, 2011, Jobs passed away.
